Honda EM1 electric scooter unveiled: Review

Honda unveiled its latest electric scooter, the EM1, at the Milan Motorcycle Show in 2022. Although it was launched as an affordable option for city commuters, it offers comfort for two riders, safety, and design. The scooter is expected to come to India with a price range of under Rs 1 lakh, with its battery being part of the Mobile Power Pack, which is compliant with a consortium formed between Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Suzuki. The scooter offers a moped-like experience, a removable battery pack, lower top speeds, and an ergonomic design, making it perfect for short commutes around the city. It is also equipped with safety features such as an anti-theft alarm and a USB outlet to charge devices on the go.

The scooter is expected to have a range of 40km on a single charge, with an expected lifetime range of 133km before the batteries need to be replaced. The Honda EM1 might be a rehashed Honda U-Go, with similar specifications, and it is expected to face stiff competition from players such as Hero Electric, Okinawa, and Ola. Although the colours for the scooter in India have not been revealed yet, it is expected to come with at least a 3-year and 30,000 km warranty coverage, with an unlimited km warranty being a possibility.
