Odysse Evoqis: The First Fully-Faired Electric Sportsbike in India with a Reverse Gear - A Review

Electric two-wheelers in India are typically dominated by scooters. However, a start-up company from Ahmedabad, Odysse Electric Vehicles Pvt. Ltd, is aiming to change this trend with its new offering - the Odysse Evoqis.

Priced at Rs 1.5 lakh, ex-showroom, the Odysse Evoqis is the only fully-faired electric bike available in India currently. The bike promises good range, decent performance, and low maintenance costs. In this review, we'll take a closer look at the Odysse Evoqis to see if it's worth the money.

Design: The Odysse Evoqis looks quite attractive and appears larger than its actual size. It features LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, a sharp-looking fairing, and a semi-digital instrument console. The console displays battery charge, speed, one trip meter, odometer, and turn indicators. The bike also comes with 17-inch alloy wheels on both ends fitted with Ceat Zoom XL tyres. The design elements have been tailored to attract the younger crowd, making it an excellent choice for those looking for a sporty ride.

However, the bike has some design shortcomings, including a poorly placed battery charging port near the rear wheel, which makes it difficult to access, especially in wet weather. Also, the bike could have used a storage space instead of a fuel tank, which is lockable but non-functional. The mirrors provide minimal utility as they only show the brake levers. Furthermore, the panel gaps could have been better, although the build quality overall is decent.

Connectivity options are also absent, although the manufacturer plans to implement them soon.

Powertrain: The Odysse Evoqis is powered by a 3000W electric motor, supported by a 4.32kWh Li-ion battery pack. The peak power output is 6hp, with a torque of 64Nm. The bike has a certified range of 150km on a single charge by the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT). The company claims a 0-100% charge time of six hours, and the bike comes with a 15W charger.

The bike features three riding modes - Drive, Sports, and Reverse - with an additional Parking mode. The modes are self-explanatory and located on the left handlebar grip. The acceleration is linear and smooth, and the sports mode provides a noticeable boost. The bike has a top speed of 74kmph in Drive mode and 79kmph in Sports mode.

One of the most innovative features of the bike is its reverse gear, which is a rarity in two-wheelers in India. The bike also features a regenerative braking system that charges the battery while the rider brakes.

Shortcomings: The bike's charging time can sometimes exceed six hours, and there is a noticeable lag in power when you brake and then want to accelerate. The mirrors offer minimal visibility, and the actual top speed is slightly lower than the company's claim.

Verdict: The Odysse Evoqis is an excellent offering for those looking for a sporty electric bike with decent range and performance. Its unique features, such as the fully-faired design and reverse gear, set it apart from its competitors. The bike does have some shortcomings, such as the charging time and limited visibility offered by the mirrors. Overall, the Odysse Evoqis is a worthy investment for those looking for a stylish, eco-friendly mode of transportation.
